Trip Overview
Assistant Professor of Religion Dr. Barry Huff will lead our tour and present several lectures throughout our time in Greece. We will follow in the footsteps of the Apostle Paul on this tour, which features historic sites, cities significant in Paul's life, and a three-night Aegean Sea cruise.
In Thessalonika, the center of Paul’s activities in northern Greece, we'll enjoy guided sightseeing and an excursion to Philippi, a busy Roman colony where Paul preached and established Europe’s first church. Next, in Veria, where Paul and Silas were sent after being accused of treason in Thessalonika, we'll visit the Bema of Apostle Paul, where he preached the gospel to the local community. In Corinth, we'll see the excavations where Paul worked for 18 months and learn about Corinth's early church, to which Paul wrote two epistles (Corinthians I and II).
We will also enjoy a cruise around the Greek Isles and Turkey, including a visit to Kusadasi and the ruins of Ephesus, where Paul lived and preached. And we'll see the House of Mary, where the Virgin Mary is said to have spent her last days. Other cruise destinations include Heraklion on Crete; Santorini; and Patmos, where we'll visit the Monastery of St. John and the Cave of the Apocalypse. Here, John received the visions that he recorded in the book of Revelation. In Athens, we'll visit the Acropolis with the Parthenon and Areopagus, where Paul delivered his famous sermon.
